We understand the critical importance of compensating a hospital for the vital services rendered.
In some cases, not all patients are able to pay for the care they receive, and in the State of Maine this Free Care is a benefit they are entitled too. Uncompensated care in the state of Maine was at $563 million in 2014 according to this article, with over $300 million in bad debts. When comparing how many of those residents were also uninsured, we see that in this article 2014 approximately 15.3% of the population of Maine was totally uninsured, about (199,500 people).
This means that based on the data available, 200,000 uninsured people had at least $1,500 in outstanding medical bills that the hospitals were unable to collect on. Those costs are then passed on to the privately insured or self-paying patients, driving up the costs of health care.
At Galarraga & Duchette, we are motivated and dedicated to ensuring consumers get their much needed care and also helping to keep health care costs down. We can assist hospitals on collecting those payments by helping consumers sign up for health care whether it be through the MaineCare, Medicaid systems, or through private means.
